Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 April 2008

Workshop

3 Practical Workshops related to drug hypersensitivity and covering the preliminary topic list listed below will be organised and chaired by specialists. These 120 minutes-workshops will be training sessions emphasizing on problem-solving, hands-on training and will require the involvement of the participants.

3 Advanced Workshops will aim at introducing scientists to new methodologies and latest tools used in the fields related to drug hypersensitivity. With a high teaching value, these 120-minutes sessions should also enhance the transfer of knowledge between academic and industrial fields. They may be accompanied by practical demonstrations.

Pre-registration is requested. Workshops have a limited number of seats

  • Registration to 1 workshop : 100 euros
  • Registration to 2 workshops : 150 euros
Saturday 12 April 2008 (08:00-10:00)

Workshop 1 (Practical Workshop)

  • Clinical assessment of causality in drug hypersensitivity
  • Invited coordinators: P. Friedman (UK), M. Mockenhaupt (Germany), N. Shear (Canada)

Objectives:

This workshop will help attendees develop an understanding of the clinical approach to diagnosing the nature of an allergic drug reaction.

Points to be covered will include the critical aspects of the patient’s history, the documentation of the drug exposure and the timing of events in relation to drug exposure. The immune mechanisms responsible for different clinical patterns clinical will be reviewed. The role of testing will be considered and put in place as a tool for making clinical decisions.

The workshop will include a number of case examples and attendees are invited to submit interesting cases which will be used for discussion.

Programme:

Clinical patterns of drug hypersensitivity in relation to the underlying Immunological mechanisms
P. Friedmann (United Kingdom)

General approach analysis of causality of drug hypersensitivity
N. Shear (Canada)

Approach to causality assessment in the individual patient
M. Mockenhaupt (Germany)

Open discussion with example cases

Workshop 2 (Practical Workshop)

  • In vitro testing for drug hypersensitivity
  • Invited coordinators: M. Blanca (Spain) , A. Rozières (France), S. Halevy (Israel)

Objectives:

Drug hypersensitivity reactions are mediated by specific immunological mechanisms. Various immunoassays can be used for the detection of drug-specific IgE mediated reactions. Detection of drug-specific T cell reactions is based on the proliferative capacity of lymphocytes and cytokine release (Th1/Th2) upon contact with the hapten. The session will address new developments of these methodologies with a focus on practical issues.

Workshop 3 (Advanced Workshop)

  • Update on virus drug interaction
  • Invited coordinators: Z. Ikezawa (Japan), P. Musette (France)

Objectives:

8h00- 8h45
Z. Ikezawa: Detection of virus in DIHS (DRESS) of Japan.
8h45-9h30
P. Musette: role of the CD8+ T cell response in DRESS against virus.
9h30-10h00
Virus and DRESS: Clinical cases from Japan (Y. Kano) and France (V. Descamps)

Sunday 13 April 2008 (08:00-10:00)

Workshop 4 (Practical Workshop)

  • In vivo tests for drug hypersensitivity
  • Invited coordinators: A. Romano (Italy), M. Torres (Spain)
